TxDOT begins Wellborn Road bridge rail work
Posted on 04/28/2020
The Texas Department of Transportation’s contractor this week began replacing the bridge rail on Wellborn Road over University Drive near Northgate. The work is expected to be complete by the end of July.

The first phase will replace the west side rail and will require reducing southbound traffic to one lane for about one month. The second phase begins in mid-June and will replace the east side rail. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane for about one month.

Occasional lane closures will be required on University to protect vehicles during demolition and reconstruction. Wellborn lane closures will only be during the day, including after 8:30 a.m. on weekdays.

The work is part of a larger $1.6 million project to resurface Wellborn Road from University Drive to Southwest Parkway. The asphalt work is expected in June and July and will be completed at night between 7 p.m.-6 a.m. It also includes improving the ADA accessible ramps at the George Bush Drive intersection.

TxDOT reminds drivers to be alert for construction personnel, equipment, and traffic control for lane closures on Wellborn and University Drive. Law enforcement will assist with traffic control through major intersections.
