Fisher named director of public works
Posted on 12/15/2021
Emily Fisher has been named director of public works for the City of College Station. She begins her new role on Monday.

She has served as assistant director of capital projects since 2014 and played an integral role overseeing construction of the new city hall, which was dedicated to the public on Dec. 7.

Additional facility projects completed under Fisher were the Lick Creek Nature Center, expansion of the Larry J. Ringer Library, and the new College Station Police Department headquarters.

Fisher fills the vacancy left by Donald Harmon, who retired in April after more than 20 years with the organization. She takes over a department that encompasses maintenance of facilities, streets, drainage, traffic signs and signals, sanitation, and fleet.

Public Works employs 129 people and has a total FY22 operating budget of nearly $16 million.

City Manager Bryan Woods said the selection of Fisher is of enormous benefit to Public Works and the entire city organization.

“Emily has been a standout performer for many years and has delivered some of the city’s largest construction projects on time and under budget,” Woods said. “Her knowledge of the organization and the community will be invaluable in her new role and we feel very fortunate to have her leading Public Works moving forward.”

Fisher says she inherits a department she knows well and is eager to collaborate with such a deep roster of professionals.

“Being a College Station native and having spent several years as assistant director of Public Works, I care deeply for this organization and look forward to working with a team of highly dedicated employees to continue to provide exceptional services to our citizens,” Fisher said.
