Posted on 12/15/2021
City Manager Bryan Woods announced Wednesday that Sam Rivera has been named the organization's chief information officer.

Rivera joined the City of College Station in 2019 as assistant director of Information Technology but has served as the interim CIO since May.

Among Rivera's prior career stops are the cities of Peoria, Ill.; Gulfport, Fla.; and Tarpon Springs, Fla. He also logged many years of software design, creation, and implementation experience in the private sector.

“Sam brings an incredible amount of knowledge and experience to the IT department and the city’s management team,” Woods said. “We’ve been fortunate to see Sam perform successfully as both an assistant director and as interim CIO. He’s already tackled some extremely challenging initiatives and we’re excited to see Sam’s contributions as our permanent CIO.”

The Information Technology Department implements and maintains the technology and computer-based information systems used by city departments. IT employees 31 people and has an FY22 operating budget of $6.9 million.
