City of Bryan Wastewater Spill Advisory

The City of College Station advises residents near the City of Bryan’s Burton Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to take precautions in response to a pumping system failure that caused a 300,000-gallon wastewater spill on Aug. 12. College Station officials were notified about the spill on Friday.

Public water supplies are not impacted, and the spill did not reach the College Station city limit. However, the City of Bryan recommends that those with private wells within ¼-mile of the spill site only use water that has been distilled or boiled to a rolling boil for at least one minute for drinking, cooking, bathing, and tooth brushing.

Residents with private wells should have their water tested and disinfected, if necessary, before resuming use. Inspection and cleanup of the City of Bryan’s sewer system have been completed.

The incident caused the plant to be offline for about 12 hours. The sewage discharge came from an adjacent manhole about 1,000 feet upstream of Burton Creek’s junction with Carters Creek.
