College Station earns prestigious Bird City Texas designation

Texas Parks and Wildlife and Audubon Texas have designated College Station as a Bird City Texas, highlighting the City of College Station's commitment to bird conservation, community engagement, and sustainable habitat management.

The Bird City Texas program acknowledges communities demonstrating exceptional efforts to enhance residents' quality of life by creating bird-friendly environments. The recognition underscores the City's dedication to preserving habitats, aiding crucial migration patterns, and promoting biodiversity.

To earn the designation, College Station implemented various initiatives:

• Advocate and adopt policies to support the well-being of native birds, wildlife, and wild places.
• Enhance green spaces and parks to provide safe habitats for birds and other wildlife.
• Host educational workshops and community events to promote bird-friendly practices.
• Incorporate native plants in public landscaping to support local ecosystems.
• Engage volunteers in bird counts and habitat restoration projects.
• Foster and support an active conservation advisory group.

In addition to benefitting wildlife, the efforts contribute to the city's overall environmental health and resilience.
